Antiandrogen, non-steroidal

It has been used in conjunction with oral contraceptives in the treatment of Hirsutism.

Safety Information

Patient Monitoring

Periodic kidney function monitoring is recommended, as severe hepatotoxicity leading to death has been reported.

Safety and efficacy has not established in patients less than18 years of age.

Adverse Effects

Cutaneous effects may include pruritus and hypersensitivity.

Gastrointestinal effects may include gastrointestinal bleeding, bloating, diarrhea and hepatic toxicity.

Hematologic effects may include anemia, leukopenia, methemoglobinemia and thrombocytopenia.

Central nervous system effects may include numbness, tingling, weakness, confusion and dizziness

Other effects may include edema, hypertension and depression

FDA Pregnancy Category D

There are currently no FDA indications for the use of Flutamide in female patients, however, decreased neonatal survival rates and vertebral abnormalities have been reported in animal studies. Consult your doctor before taking Flutamide, if you are considering becoming pregnant.

Major Drug Interactions

Concurrent administration of anticoagulants may increase prothrombin time.
